Getting Our Priorities Straight

The priorities, for most people the world over, has changed. Just stop and think of yourself and what was your priority. a month ago, a week ago or maybe yesterday. Maybe, this is a good time for us to look at gettiing our priorities straight.

Here are a few things that were foremost in my life, in my mind and in the lives of some of my friends and family. Many things on this list are still a priority for me, for my family and friends.

Christian walk,  Family, Work, Health, Recreation, The Internet, Gambling, Travel, Liquor, Accommodations. Drugs, Personal Growth, etc.

The Coronova virus has prompted or forced us to make some changes to our priorities. Thankfully. I can still live and put into practice, what is and has been my top priority in life, worshiping and serving God. Since restrictions have been put in place, I have been able to spend more time in “The Word” and people are more readily to talk about the bible and Christianity. Many people are scared and have little hope. Now is the time for those of us who profess to be Christians, live out our Christ like walk.

I had been praying for family members and friends who had forgotten about God. Their time for worship was replaced by other things that they felt was a priority in their life. With both parents working, they had to find time to be with the children. Sport, camping, shopping and other things became more important then spending time as a family, in a place of worship. There was no time for God.

People had become stressed and pressured to keep up with their friends and neighbours. We were of the opinion that what we wanted, we needed. Many of us took on debt loads to try and fulfill our desires.

It’s 3:30 am as I began writing this aricle and I had just finished my devotional. Please forgive me because I write as I think and the sentence structure may not be correct. In my opinion, the most important thing is that, I and you who are reading this post, take something from it.

I will be placing some links, below, to websites that teach us how to prioritize our life. Some will be from Christian writers and other will be from other sources.

Thank you for taking a few moments to read this post. It is sincerely appreciated. The photo  is of Sparky. He is owned by my friend Clyde and for me it is a picture of contentment and peace. Be blessed.

I will be inserting more links. I would suggest doing a search online to find more info about your priorities.

Physician Heal Yourself

Have you ever had a phrase, that keeps troubling you and either you forget about it or you decide to research it further? The phrase, physician heal yourself, has been foremost in my thoughts for the past few days. The words were spoken by Jesus in Luke 4:23a -Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’.

A little background on why I think this phrase is on my mind. I received an e mail from a colleague of mine and he suggested a 30 day challenge that we should consider. Those are his words.” Resolve to follow the 2 daily meditations here for 30 days and I guarantee that you will notice beneficial changes in yourself and that others will also see these changes within you…”

Out of curiosity I decided to check the link wihich he sent me. I have to be upfront with you, I’m a Christian. Many years ago I decide to commit my life to serving Jesus. He is my saviour and my coming king and I believe that I will live with Jesus eternally. There is no doubt in my heart. I was going to put mind there, however; I recognize that the mind is enmity against God and Paul said to the church at Phillipi; Phil: 2:5- Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus.

This is the link. There are two videos and it’s a scientific approach to all types of healing.

I have listened to the two videos and they are inspiring and in my case led me to search scripture and research spiritual and physical healing. God, in my belief, is the creator of all things and there was nothing created without Jesus being present. We are familiar with the various healing miracles, in scripture, that were performed by Jesus. Also, there have been many credible records of physical healing within the christian church.

But, what did Jesus mean when he said physician heal yourself? Well, surprisingly the answer is not what I expected or is it?

The best and simplest explanation of those words was found in Got Questions. Here is the link.

Jesus is called The Great are a couple of bible verses and a video of the song The Great Physicias Is Near.

Mark 5:34 ESV  And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

Matthew 8:2-3 ESV  And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

I believe in spiritual and physical healing…

Loving Your Enemies

How does a person get to the point of loving your enemies? It just doesn’t seem logical and as one person wrote, it is a foreign concept. From an early age, I was taught to love people and not to hate. But is there a difference between, say hating someone or a people and making or having enemies. What is an enemy?  It’s a person or a group of people who are hostile to someone or something. It is an hostile nation, it’s armies and citizens in time of war.

Personally, I’m not aware of any enemies that exist in my life; however, I’m not that naive to recognize that there are people, in the world, who hate Christians and people from North America.. Sadly we are considered their enemies. I wish it wern’t so.

What does Jesus say about loving our enemies? The following is taken from Luke 6: 27-36. This is Jesus speaking.

27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 To the person who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other as well, and from the person who takes away your coat, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your possessions back from the person who takes them away. 31 Treat others in the same way that you would want them to treat you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

There are people whom I find very difficult to love. I would like to believe that I love everybody but there are people that I do not like. Is it possible to love someone in Christ and not like that same person?

I’m still working trough this post. Updates coming,

Open The Eyes Of My Heart

There is a popular Christian Contemporary song, written by Paul Baloche, “Open The Eyes Of My Heart” (see below) that can be sung as a prayer. It’s a personal request to God. The song is based on Paul’s writings to the Ephesians and is based on Eph 1:18-   I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

I believe that we can refer back to Luke 24:13-35 for further ensight into the words open the eyes of my heart. To recap the story. After the resurrection of Jesus, two men were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus, which is about a distance of seven miles. They were discussing everything that had happened, when Jesus comes by and walks with them. Those two men did not recognize him. This is important, they were kept from recognizing Jesus, Luke 24:16.  Many people miss the significance of this verse.

Why did they not recognize Jesus? According to the verse, they should have but there eyes were blind to who he was. They were blind, physically and spiritually, to who was speaking to them.  As we read further, we find that they were surprised that this man seemed blind to what had happened in Jerusalem. They went on to tell Jesus about his death and resurrection. It would appear that they were believers.

Jesus, then said to them, Luke 24:25-27 “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

They were approaching Emmaus and it appeared that Jesus was continuing on, however; because it was near dark, they invited him to stay with them for the night. This is where it happens….Jesus opens their spiritual eyes.. Luke 24:31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight

Open the eyes of my heart should not be the prayer of just Believers but non-believers as well. Paul in 2  Cor 4:4 writes
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

A simple prayer

Father forgive me for being me. Deliver me from my spiritual blindness and from whatever enslaves me, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Mark Twain wrote, “You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. I would go further and say “you cannot depend on your eyes when your spiritual eyes are out of focus.”

Continue In The Faith

Paul, in his letter to the Colossians said in Col:1:23 that ,If we continue in the faith, that we will be be presented holy to God. Those are the verses leading up to the above quoted verse. Col 1:21- Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behaviour.  22 But  now he (God) has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body, through death, to present you holy in his sight., without blemish and free from accusation. This is the one of the most important verses, for Christians, in the bible. Col 1:23- If you continue in the faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.

Is it possible for me and for any Christian to abandon the faith that we have in Jesus? As I’m writing this blog, there are many things going through my mind and I usually say or write what I’m thinking but try to control what I say or write. The bible contains numerous verses concerning the tongue and what I type or write really is an extension, in my opinion, of my tongue.

Those are a few verse concerning the tongue.
1 Peter 3:10  For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.

Eph 4:29  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Psalm 141:3 Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

Getting back to the question, is it possible for a Christian to abandon the faith? In my humble opinion, the answer is yes. Why would Paul even bring up the subject if it could not happen? I’m not a bible scholar, I’m just an ordinary man who has placed his faith in Jesus.

Some of my friends and associates have abandoned their faith and there have been times that I have considered doing the same. Please don’t judge me for being honest and truthful. The pleasures of this world are  extremely alluring. I do not allow my mind to take me places that are not acceptable to God. One of the guiding verses for my life is…

2 Cor 10:5  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

The only way for me to continue in the faith is, to pray, read and study scripture, be thankful, encourage others and to be led by the spirit.

John 16:13 Jesus speaking ”  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Take time to meditate and allow The Holy Spirit to misister to your spirit.

I will be writing more on this subject in future blog posts. Please feel free to comment.

How We Believe

I started thinking about this post while lying in bed. The question, are we what we believe or how we believe was on my mind and I decided to research the question on the internet. I know who we are in Christ and will speak about my belief later in this post. CNN did a study on the topic, we are what we believe. There are close to 8 billion on earth and according to CNN nothing distinguishes us more then what we believe. Here is the link address.

They have had over 600 responses and some of them I found to be extremly enlightening and others raised further questions. Many strengthened my faith and some led me to prayer.

There are quotes from atheists, a Buddhist, Faithful Christians, a Humanist, a Wiccan believer, Ifa (Yoruba religion), a Norse Pagan, a Hindu, a Multi-Faith believer plus many more. CNN concluded, for many who responded, that it doesn’t matter what we believe but how we react to what we believe.

Below are a few selected bible verses or us to consider for further study.

James 2:19- You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.

John20:31- but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

John 20:29- Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

1 John 3:23- This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us

John 14:1- “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. (Jesus)

Romans 10:9- that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

John 3:36- “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

John 3:16-  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I am a Born Again Christian and I believe that I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, My sins have been forgiven and it is my desire to live a life that is acceptable to God. I may not do it perfectly but I trust In the faithfulness of God. I believe in Jesus.

This is one of my favorite scripture verses.

John1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

A Christian Has Dual Citizenship

We have a physical earthly citizenship and a Heavenly citizenship. There are many who are citizens of more then one country. I am a citizen of Canada because that is the country of my birth. My Canadian birthright affords me access to all that the Government of Canada  offers to it’s citizens.

My Heavenly citizenship gives me access to all that heaven offers to it’s citizens.

Phillipians 3:20- But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

Vance Haver wrote, “If you are a Christian, you are not a citizen of this world trying to get to heaven:; you are a citizen of heaven trying to live in this world.”

Verses from the bible that speak of our heavenly citizenship.

Hebrews 13:14

For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come.

Luke 22:29-30

and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

John 14;2

“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

1 Peter 1:4

to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

Revelation 21:2

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

Revelation 21:27

and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 22:3-5

There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.

Ephesians 2:19

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household,

One of my favorite songs about our heavenly home

My Father is rich in houses and lands,
He hold’th the wealth of the world in His hands!
Of rubies and diamonds, of silver and gold,
His coffers are full, He has riches untold.

I’m a child of the King,
A child of the King:
With Jesus my Savior,
I’m a child of the King.

My Father’s own Son, the Savior of men,
Once wandered on earth as the poorest of them.
But now He is pleading our pardon on high,
That we may be His when He comes by and by

I once was an out-cast stranger on earth,
A sinner by choice, and an alien by birth;
But I’ve been adopted, my name’s written down,
An heir of salvation, the kingdom and crown.

Though poor on this earth, oh, why should I care?
Since glorious things for me God doth prepare;
Though trials abound, yet, still I may sing:
All glory to God, I’m a child of the King.

God Owns Everything

It all began with, In The Beginning God Created..this is where the foundation for our living a God loving and a God fearing life begins. Until we accept the fact that God created all things we will not truly understand life and the fact that God owns everything.

The Beginning

Genesis 1-1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

The following are links to sermons and devotionals on “In The Beginning God”

“In the Beginning”: The Most Important Verse in the Bible

Grace and Growth

Luke 8:11-15 New International Version (NIV)

There is plenty of Grace available to deal with any and every circumstance that  we face  from day to day and moment by moment.. God’s Grace Dispensary.

“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

Daily Devotional

I have been immensely blessed by Paul David Tripp’s devotional book, New Morning Mercies. So much so, that I have given away 20 of those books to other men. There are seven to eight of us men who meet together for prayer, on Sunday mornings at 7:00am. I gave each of them a book as well as one to give to another man.

I gave one to a Pastor and he has since ordered ten additional books.

God has blessed me and I’m thankful.

I have no financial relationship with the author and I receive no financial compensation for endorsing this devotional. I ordered them through Amazon.

I received my copy, about a year ago, from a friend in Ontario. He had it forwarded to my home address in Newfoundland.

One verse of scriptures summarizes the content of this devotional book.

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
