The Red Sea Story
Found in: Exodus 13:17 – 14:31
1. God’s People Leave Egypt
After 400 years of slavery in Egypt, the Israelites were finally set free. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had agreed to let them go after God sent 10 devastating plagues. Over a million people began their journey toward the land God had promised them.
God didn’t lead them on the fastest road. Instead, He led them through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Why? Because God knew they weren’t ready to face war with other nations yet. He was protecting them, even if the way seemed longer.
2. God Led Them Day and Night
- During the day, God went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud.
- At night, He led them with a pillar of fire, giving them light and safety.
3. Pharaoh Changes His Mind
After the Israelites left, Pharaoh suddenly had second thoughts.
He gathered his army — 600 of his best chariots and soldiers — and chased after the Israelites, determined to bring them back.
4. Trapped by the Sea
The Israelites were now camped by the Red Sea, and they looked up and saw Pharaoh’s army racing toward them.
5. God Makes a Way
God told Moses to stretch out his staff over the water. Then God moved His pillar of cloud between the Israelites and the Egyptians, so the army couldn’t reach them.
6. God Defeats the Egyptians
Pharaoh’s army chased them into the sea, but God caused confusion. Their chariots got stuck.
7. A Song of Victory
When the Israelites saw what God had done, they were amazed.
They sang praises, celebrating how God had saved them in a way only He could.
