I have often wondered about the following scripture and how I could apply it in my Christ-like walk.
“He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” from Psalm 23:3. This line reveals both God’s guidance and the purpose behind it.

For His Name’s Sake
Scripture: “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” – Psalm 23:3 (ESV)
Devotional Thought:
Why does God lead us in the right direction? Why does He guide us through hard choices, convict us of sin, and call us to live differently than the world?
It’s not merely for our comfort or success—it’s for His name’s sake. That means for the sake of His glory, reputation, and holiness. When God restores your soul and leads you to walk in truth, it reflects who He is: faithful, righteous, and full of steadfast love.
We are His sheep. Our lives are living testimonies of the Shepherd’s care. When we walk in righteousness, when we turn from sin, when we forgive, love, and serve—it says something profound about the One we follow.
You may not always understand the path. Righteousness isn’t always comfortable. But every step taken in obedience to Christ magnifies His name. Even in trials, His name is lifted high when we walk with trust and humility.
Reflect:
- Is there an area in your life where God is calling you to walk differently?
- Are your decisions bringing honor to His name?
- How can your response to difficulty reflect the character of your Shepherd?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for restoring my soul. Lead me in paths that honor You, even when they are hard. May my life reflect Your goodness and righteousness, not for my glory but for Yours. Lord, thank You for being my Shepherd and leading me in the right way. Help me to walk in paths of righteousness—not for my sake, but for Yours. May my life bring honor to Your name. Amen.
